Updating oak cabinets with new hardware
Replacing an entire set of kitchen cabinets is an expensive undertaking, especially when cabinets in this room are numerous.
Outdated cabinets, though they may seem less than attractive, often haven't lost their functionality and need not be discarded just for being behind the times.
Paint the visible cabinet interiors a contrasting color, or decorate the back wall of the cabinet interior with a vibrant contact paper.
Apply varnish with a foam brush for smooth results, looking out for drips along the way.
Choose a varnish resistant to ultraviolet rays if cabinets receive a lot of sunlight to help prevent fading or color changing over time.
Paint the cabinets a modern shade such as bright red or apple green, or a retro shade such as pale yellow, white or a light blue.
Varnish is ideal if you like the look of plain wood and the cabinets were previously varnished or have been stripped down to bare wood.
